10 Homemade Valentine's Day Gifts

By WorkAtHomeGal

After New Years our next event is Valentine's Day. Not everyone celebrates it and most people don't go crazy about it because of how commercial it has become. However you can make a sweet gesture for your loved one by doing a homemade gift for them.

You can even go as far as doing a small gift for some close friends, young family members or co workers! Since these are homemade gifts, spending should be kept at a minimum if possible. You may be lucky enough to have some supplies laying around which will help cut cost. Let's dive in and have a look at the 10 homemade valentine day gifts I have picked out.

1) Homemade Valentine Day Card

This is quite popular and a great way to stay away from generic cards. By making your own card you can write whatever you want, use any picture you want and have a big or small card. This is a favourite among young and old, and most people see a lot of heart involved when they get a homemade card over a store bought one.

2) Love Coupon Book

This has become popular too. If you search google you can find instructions for making these
books or just buy one. Stay away from buying one if you want to do your own work. Your coupon book does not have to be big. Some popular coupons you may use are: "Good for one free kiss", "Good for a back rub", "Good for a homemade meal" You can also add some spice and make sexual coupons too. They don't have to be just romance gestures. Something sexual and fun is great too.

3) Make A Scrapbook

I am going to include a picture of the cover of the scrapbook I made my boyfriend for his birthday that went by in October. I didn't have many pictures so my scrapbook is more memories and my love and the troubles we have had. Your scrapbook doesn't have to just be pictures. You could include movie ticket stubs, love notes, anything really.

4) Bake Something

Who doesn't like baked goodies? Especially if you dress it up a bit. You could make cupcakes and use pink frosting. Or perhaps a heart shaped cake with a nice message. You could pack everything in a container that is decorated with hearts and messages to add a valentines day feel to it.

5) Write A Love Letter Or Poem

Love letters are a great time to talk about the past, present and future. Spread your love in a readable way. Love letters can touch the soul for some and help people feel the flame inside. If you don't want to write a letter you could try a poem. Poems are great because they have that original feel. By using your computer and a printer you could make the page decorative and nice. Or you could use construction paper and decorate that way. You could add surprise and mail the letter to your significant others place of work (if thats ok) or mail it to your own address!

6) Hershey Kisses Jar

I have never done the jar idea before but have seen countless ways to do this online. This can
easily be done with a Mason jar. You can decorate it up a bit and place the hershey kisses inside. So you can turn a regular candy into a jar of thoughtful creativity for Valentine's day.

7) Message In a Bottle

Not a letter. But a romantic message for the person you love. Chances are you will have a 6 1/2 inch bottle from a drink or something else, do not chuck it away, wash it and keep it for this project. A wine bottle would work well too. I suggest going to the dollar store and buying some paper with a scroll design. If you have a printer you could probably print some off too. Using a red fine tip marker you could write a short message and place it in the bottle. If you want you could also add sand from a local beach and some shells , just for decoration with the note in the bottle.

8) "I Love You Because" Decoration

Ok I did this a few years ago. In the picture you will notice a closet door. This is the bedroom closet. I decorated it with hearts and wrote on them reasons why I love my boyfriend. I did this gift for him a couple years ago. He had such a rotten day at work and when he got home he had that to cheer him up!

The entire door was filled at one time but our cat kept taking them done, so this is what is left after 2 years of the cat trying to paw the hearts down.

9) Home Cooked Meal

Although this can be done for any occasion you could make it special for Valentine's Day. The
table could be set nicely, flowers, candles, and a menu. Even display what is on the menu for you both to see. You don't have to spend a bunch of money to plan a nice meal. You could make homemade favourites and even something new for Valentine's Day.

10) Make You Smile Jar

This is another project involving a mason jar but without candy. You could call it "Smiles Jar" or
something on those lines. This jar should contain timeless memories, favourite things and "Why I love you" It doesn't have to be one type of note inside. Make it many and make it special.
